ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING 

ELECTIONS DATE: 18TH APRIL,2026.

VENUE: MOI HIGH SCHOOL & SENIOR SCHOOL  KABARAK.

ELECTIONS OF EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

The Returning officer appointed by the Chief Principal of MHSK as J. Muthoki declared all the seats vacant. He presented the election guidelines.

The Final Tally was confirmed and signed by the returning Officer and the newly elected Chairman.

ELECTIONS GUIDELINES

The following guidelines applied for the elections:

1. Verified Voter List.

Only registered members will be eligible to vote.

An attendance register of members verified to be registered and subscribed for the year 2026 shall be the list of members eligible to vote.

2. Same-Day Registration.

New members who register on the same day as they attend AGM shall be allowed to vote.

3. Mode of Election.

Secret Ballot will be the preferred mode of electing a leader once one is proposed and seconded.

Voting will be done by members physically present. No proxy votes will be allowed.

4. Nomination of candidates.

Candidates may be proposed at the venue, whether present or absent. Each must have a proposer and a seconder.

All nominees must be registered members.

5. Counting of votes.

Only members present and eligible will be counted in voting.

6. Returning officer

The Principal Moi High & Senior School Kabarak or an appointed representative.

 

CHAIRMAN’S REPORT AT THE AGM:

ORGANISATION INFORMATION:

The Moi High School Kabarak Alumni Association was registered on 19th July, 2001.

 *Physical / Postal Address*

We sincerely thank the school for graciously hosting our meetings and events.

 *KEY OBJECTIVES* :                                                              

1. To promote the general welfare of its members.
2. To participate in the development of Moi High School Kabarak in all spheres.
3. To promote education generally by setting up bursary or scholarship schemes or other schemes of a similar nature.
4. To solicit , raise and disburse money for purposes consistent with its objectives.
5. To establish and maintain charitable projects , trusts and foundations.

THE REPORT:                                                                         

In the year 2025 we were able to undertake various activities in furtherance of the Association objectives.

We thank God for the success of most planned activities.

1. SCHEDULED MEETINGS:
2. A) Executive Committee:

The committee held two  meetings in the year 2025; one  physical meeting  and at least 3 virtual meetings and a few consultative meetings.

1. B) Chapter meetings.

We had three chapter meetings at elections were done and the chapters launched.

2025. Eldoret Chapter– 1th September 2025.
2026. Nairobi Chapter-6th September 2025.
2027. Nakuru Chapter– 20th September ,2025.
2028. d) Governing Council Meeting- 11th October, 2025. This was followed by an online meeting to wrap on the issues not cleared at the meeting.

 

2. SCHOOL EVENTS:
3. a) Career Days:

The Alumni provided some key speakers in the events on  request by the school. We thank the school for providing 10 tents dedicated to  Alumni  from which we offered guidance to students in the various careers and to give general guidance.

This demonstrates the increasing role of the Association in this activity. Special thanks to the many of us who were  available for the career days. We can do more on this front to offer guidance and mentorship in collaboration with the school.

1. b) Thanksgiving & Prizegiving Day.

The Alumni Association was  represented by the Treasurer Ivan Kelunyo, Secretary- Velichka Omukuba , the Editorial Lead Harriet Owino and our Liason officer Mr John Limo . We gave awards sponsored from our kitty to the tune of ksh 104,000. The school appreciates the role we play/ have played in this regard.

2025. c) Alumni Sunday Service- 25th May 2025.

This was an inaugural organized Sunday service that brought together year cohorts from 1979 to date. It was combined with career guidance and counselling in the afternoon done according to houses. It was a great success.

3. MEMBERSHIP

Membership remains voluntary. We endeavor to attract more members by making our objectives and activities to meet the expectations of potential members. The chapters  meetings were the new recruitment and member sensitization hurb in 2025. We have a number of slightly over 400  who have  paid their registration. We are happy to report that more members have come on board after every event – chapter meetings, career days and Alumni Sunday service. Member recruitment remains a top agenda in the coming year. We look forward to having over 500 registered members by the next AGM.

 

4.YEAR COHORTS- WELFARE ACTIVITIES & RESOURCE MOBILIZATION.                                             

Welfare activities are domiciled in year cohorts and this is one area where one feels they belong. We encourage members to be connected at both year cohorts and the parent society. Strong year cohorts result in a strong society.

The strength of year cohorts was evident in among other activities the  Endowment Fund  mobilization where we cleared an outstanding bill of ksh 467,500.

The school appreciated the gesture. I must thank Class cohort for doing a commendable job in both joint activities and their individual class welfare activities.

 

5. CHAPTERS & NETWORKING:

After the chapter elections and launches in 2025, the next phase of activities will be to allow chapters to run own programs.  The parent society’s role will be to ensure they have the necessary support to open own bank accounts and run own activities. Chapters will be the hub of networking for business and opportunities across year cohorts.

Resource mobilization activities will be guided by the constitution, the Executive committee and the Trustees whom we hope to have them elected in this AGM.  Through the resolution of this AGM we hope to have in place a fund sharing formula between chapters and the parent society in respect to funds raised through annual subscriptions, donations, partnerships and sponsorships.

 

6.THE CONSTITUTION                                                 

Our constitution embodies the objectives and rules that govern the organization. It is the guide of the association. This document has come under review in a  special general meeting in 2024  and the 2025 AGM.

The document, however, still has gaps. It needs to made responsive to the structures of the organization to make it easier for chapters , year cohorts , Excom and the Trustees to execute their functions. It is an agenda item in today’s AGM. The AGM is the supreme decision making organ of the society. The Governing Council, which is a product of a consultative process from Executive committee, year cohorts and a special General Meeting held in 2024 needs to be enshrined in the constitution to give it legitimacy in processing decisions before the AGM. It’s representation is drawn from year cohorts, chapters, Trustees and the Executive committee.

Other gaps resulted during alignment to the specimen given at the Registrar’s office. The amendments recommended in this AGM are those that make the document truly representative of the aspirations of the society membership.

Membership should be made to capture the voluntary nature of the association and exclude excessive clauses that tend to discourage joining members. Membership clauses should be those that are enforceable and logical to the nature of our organization.

 

8. MARKETING & BRANDING:

The association as at now has a wide reach through many channels- our WhatsApp pages, face book , instagram, our website and the many activities of the society. However, the organisation has alot to do to attract members across year cohorts which has a potential membership of over 10,000 members based on Alumni who have graduated through the school.

The year 2026 annual budget is reflective of intent to have networking  and collaboration activities working with chapters.

Networking across year cohorts comes with great benefits.

We envisage a paradigm shift from the current position where most year cohorts are in their comfort zones as welfare groups.

We hope to fully operationalize and launch our website and energize the business & networking forum.

We hope to also strengthen networking in caucuses such as Medics forum, agricaucus and other professional/ business caucuses. We envisage a socio-economic powerhouse courtesy of the association.

 

9. CONSORTIUM OF SECONDARY SCHOOLS ALUMNI ASSOCIATIONS OF KENYA ( COSAAK). MHSKAA is a registered and compliant member of COSAAK. The umbrella body offers great potential in networking through joint events and sharing of experiences as they say if you want to go far, walk with others.

I look forward to a great walk in the coming years as we grow together through the association.
