CHAIRMANS REPORT
We were able to undertake various activities in furtherance of the Association objectives in the past one year. We thank God for the success of most planned activities.
1. SCHEDULED MEETINGS:
a) Executive Committee:
The committee held two meetings in the year 2023; one physical meeting on 17th June 2023 and a virtual meeting on 7th September 2023. We have had 3 meetings in 2024 on physical on 16th March 2024 and two virtual meetings on 1st May 2024 and 1st August 2024). Other meetings were consultative.
b) Executive Committee & Class Reps:
Our first meeting (online) was held on 6th September, 2023 and a second one on 16th May 2024. The forum has resolved to have quarterly meetings. One resolution from the first meeting was to deal with communication. Two community WhatsApp groups were formed to address this: Community 1 and community 2 where only Excom could post important messages to
members. At least 36 year cohorts are on this platform.
In the second meeting, one key agenda was resource mobilization / fund raising for Alumni activities. A sub committee was formed to spearhead the agenda.
c) Reunions
We had four reunions in the one year space to this AGM in a series that started at Moi High School Kabarak on 19th August 2023 with 114 attendees.
- Eldoret Reunion – 13th April 2024- It was a resounding success with 72 attendees.
- Nairobi Reunion – 27th July 2024, with 54 attendees.
- Nakuru Reunion – 13th July, 2024 with 44 attendees.
Thank you the coordinating committees tasked with the organization of this events. It is a job well executed. In each event we had members who came in to give support/partial sponsorship. Special thanks to all members who did individual voluntary sponsorship to support some attendees and those who did general support to the reunion kitty.
We plan to have another special series of reunions dubbed ‘Mbuzi Choma meets’ specifically for the Gen Zs and the Millennials before the end of the year, one such activity for each chapter; Nairobi , Nakuru and Eldoret. They will be fully sponsored by willing sponsors among Alumni members and an equal amount for each chapter from the Alumni kitty. We invite willing members to partner in this. We encourage the 2000s, 2010s and 2020s to come on board when
these events are called. The dates of the events will be given in due course.
d) Special General Meeting:
We had one special general meeting on 19th August 2023 done together with the reunion. The resolutions of the meeting are well captured in our minutes.
2. SCHOOL EVENTS:
a) Career Days:
The Association members participated in career days
The 10th Career Day on 17th July, 2023 and the 11th Career Day on 6th July, 2024. The Alumni provided some key speakers in the events on request by the school. We thank the school for providing 4 tents dedicated to Alumni from which we offered guidance to students in the various careers and to give general guidance in the 11th career day. This demonstrates the increasing role of the Association in this activity. Special thanks to the many of us who were available for the career days. We can do more on this front to offer guidance and mentorship in collaboration with the school.
b) Thanksgiving & Prizegiving Ceremony done in February, 2024.
The Alumni Association was represented by the Chairman and our Liason officer Mr John Limo.
We gave awards sponsored from our kitty to the tune of ksh 43,000 worth and an additional amount of ksh15, 000 from a few members who volunteered to top up. The awards were given to the 7 students who scored A plain of 84 points in the 2023 KCSE and 2 ongoing students outstanding in sports. The school appreciates the role we play/ have played in this regard.
3. ENDOWEMENT FUND & FUNDRAISING.
The first activity of the current office to this end was to clear school fees arrears that stood at KES 467,500 at the time of the SGM on 19th August 2023. Through the class cohorts have we have by now made substantial contributions leaving an outstanding balance of about KES 67,000 which am confident will be cleared very soon.
The second class Reps meeting done on 16th May 2024 had resource mobilization as a substantive agenda. A sub committee was formed to spearhead the exercise.
4. MEMBERSHIP
Membership of remains voluntary. We endeavor to attract more members making our objectives and activities to meet the expectations of potential members. The reunion meetings over the one year period marked a very important milestone in our journey to bring on board the potential membership of the Alumni Association which is now well over 10,000 in number.
We have a number slightly less than 500 having paid their registration and annual subscriptions fees. We are happy a few more members come on board after every reunion. Member recruitment remains a top agenda in the coming year. We look forward to having over 1,000 registered members by the next AGM.
5. YEAR COHORTS- WELFARE ACTIVITIES & RESOURCE MOBILIZATION.
The strength of year cohorts was evident in among other activities the Endowement Fund mobilization. I must thank Class cohort for doing a commendable job in both joint activites and their individual class welfare activities.
6. CHAPTERS & NETWORKING:
After the series of reunions in the three chapters, the next phase of activities will be the launch of chapters and election of chapter committees. Chapters will be the hub of networking for business and opportunities across year cohorts.
